Lillie Morris
Throughout my life the desire to express myself
artistically has been unrelenting. My serious pursuit of art began at Augusta
College in the early ‘70’s with Nathan Bindler, Freeman Schoolcraft and Richard
Frank. Out of a sense of practicality, however, I turned my academic energies
towards a degree in nursing, which resulted in a rewarding career that I enjoyed
for many years. But, the passion for the arts never abated.
Over the years it seems that art has continued to
pursue me…..it is something I feel I have to do! I see creativity as a
God-given gift which we have a responsibility to cultivate. Despite my family
and professional commitments I have continued my art education through workshops
and sheer perseverance.
Being a native Augustan, I enjoy rendering the
buildings and architectural structures of our area that have literally been
fixtures in my life. I also have an interest in the landscape, beauty and music
of Ireland and Scotland, countries I have been privileged to visit in recent
years.
Celtic music, particularly Irish traditional
music, is another passion of mine. I enjoy playing the fiddle and have studied
with some of today’s finest traditional Irish fiddlers: Liz Knowles, Randal
Bays, Patrick Ourceau and James Kelly. I’ve also enjoyed bringing some of the
very best Irish traditional music to the CSRA by way of our Broadstrokes
Gallery concert series….if you haven’t heard about it just ask!!
