Artist’s Open Entry Rules

1. Artists 18 years of age or older are invited to enter the Broad Strokes Gallery, Inc. (BSGI)
    Artist’s Open show.
2. Artists may enter a maximum of two pieces. All entries must be must be priced by the artist
    for sale. “Not for sale” is unacceptable. All work will be accepted until capacity is reached.
3. First piece is free, second piece is $25.
4. All entries must be completely original work created by the entering artist and never
    previously exhibited in a BSGI event. No numbered prints, reproductions or mass-produced
    pieces allowed.
5. Entries may include two- and three-dimensional artwork including acrylics, oils, pastels,
    mixed-media, drawing, sculpture, pottery, clay, metal, glass, wood, jewelry, leather, fiber,
    baskets, fabric, paper, and photography.
6. Video creations requiring monitors for display will not be accepted.
7. Artwork submitted to be hung in this show must be completely dry and wired for hanging
    when presented at registration. Pieces that do not conform to this rule may be refused
    entry at registration. No saw-toothed hangers.
8. All works must be presented in person by the artist or their representative. No shipped work
    will be accepted.
9. Artwork intended to be assembled must be assembled and disassembled (at the end of the
    show) by the artist or a person designated by the artist.
10. Works must not exceed 80 pounds. This applies to all work, including 3-D pieces.
11. The following size limits will be enforced:
    • Paintings and photographs may not exceed a height or width of 40 inches, including
       frame, to be counted as a single entry.
    • Diptychs and triptychs will be considered as one piece entered by the artist, provided
       that the over-all pieces do not exceed 60 inches in any direction. Diptychs will be
       judged as one piece and must be priced for sale as one piece.
    • Fiber artwork will be subject to the same rules as paintings and photographs.
    • 3-D artwork: No size limits are set for three-dimensional entries. However, BSG
       reserves the right to exclude a piece based on its size if the space for display at the
       gallery is limited and displaying the piece would preclude the display of other smaller
       artworks, or if displaying the piece would obstruct pedestrian traffic flow to, from, or
       through the gallery.
12. We reserve the right to refuse any art that we consider socially offensive.


SALES OF ARTWORK AND COMMISSIONS
    • BSGI will actively promote the event and assist the sale of artwork exhibited. BSGI will
       collect a thirty-five percent (35%) commission on all work sold from the opening until
       the closing of the show.
    • All sales will be subject to North Carolina sales tax, to be paid by the purchaser. BSGI
       will be responsible for submitting sales tax to the state.
    • Artists will be notified by BSGI if their artwork is sold. If a piece is sold, you will receive
       payment by June 15th. A check, less 35% of the sales price, will be sent to the
       address on your registration form.


REGISTRATION, DELIVERY, DISPLAY, AND PICK UP OF ART WORK
    • Registration and delivery of art is Sunday April 26th from noon until 6 p.m., Monday
       April 27th from noon until 6 p.m., and Tuesday April 28th from noon until 6 p.m., at
       Broad Strokes Gallery. No work will be accepted outside of stated delivery dates.
    • Due to available space restrictions, artists are encouraged to drop off work as early as
       possible. When the available capacity is reached, no more work will be accepted.
    • Each piece of artwork must have an identification label affixed to the back or on the
       bottom. Labels are part of the registration form which is found on the BSGI website
       (broadstrokesgallery.com), or at the gallery.
    • Brochures, artist bios, and business cards may not accompany artwork displayed in
       this show. Business cards will be allowed on the back of pieces that are hung and
       underneath three-dimensional pieces so long as they are not readily visible to patrons
       viewing the show.
    • All accepted, exhibited entries should remain on display for the duration of the show
       unless permission is given by the BSGI show directors for removal and/or
       replacement.
    • Artwork should be picked up Sunday May 31st from noon until 4:00 p.m., Monday
       June 1st from noon until 6:00 p.m. or Tuesday June 2nd from noon until 6:00 p.m.
               Artists must pick up artwork at the times specified within these rules for pick up unless
       prior arrangements have been made with BSGI. Artwork that is not picked up by
       Tuesday June 2nd by 3 p.m. will become the property of BSGI.


INSURANCE OF ARTWORK AND LIABILITY RELEASE
    • Artists are responsible for insuring their own artwork. Neither Broad Strokes Gallery,
       nor the owners of the building where the Artist’s Open is held will insure artwork. As a
       condition of entry, participants sign the art information labels that are a general release
       of liability for theft, loss, damage or destruction of artwork entered in the show. BSGI
       will make all reasonable efforts to keep the artwork safe and secure in the gallery
       space.
    • Artists wishing to become regular exhibiting artist at Broad Strokes Gallery may
       request a gallery application form or download one from the website.

Broad Strokes Gallery, Inc.

What type of art is accepted for this exhibit?
    This is a no-jury, open-call exhibition — which means everyone is welcome! Emerging
    artists, seasoned professionals, hobbyists, and first-time exhibitors alike — if you
    create art, we want to showcase it. Two pieces, any size, any medium.

Who can enter?
    Artists living in Pamlico, Craven, Beaufort, and Carteret Counties. Ages 18 and above.

When can I register for this event?
    Registration forms will be available at the gallery and on the website
    (broadstrokesgallery.com) on April 1.
    Registration forms and fees (if any) are due when art is dropped off at the gallery.
    You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number and the price and
    description (title) of your art pieces.

How long will my art be displayed?
    A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
    Exhibition Runs: May 2nd – May 31st

When do I drop off my art?
    Sunday April 26th from noon until 6 p.m.
    Monday April 27th from noon until 6 p.m.
    Tuesday April 28th from noon until 6 p.m., at Broad Strokes Gallery.

When do I pick up any art that isn’t sold?
    Sunday May 31st from noon until 4:00 p.m.
    Monday June 1st from noon until 6:00 p.m.
    Tuesday June 2nd from noon until 6:00 p.m.

What happens if my pieces are sold?
    You will be notified if one of your pieces is sold, no replacement art is allowed.
    If a piece is sold, you will receive payment by June 15th. A check, less commission
    (35% of the sales price), will be sent to the address on your registration form.

possession or auspices of Broad Strokes Gallery, Inc.

The undersigned agrees to read the rules set forth for this exhibit and abide by the rules
established by Broad Strokes Gallery, Inc.

Photos of work submitted taken by Broad Strokes Gallery, Inc. may be used for purposes of
publicity.
